Automation being ignored/not read

I ran into a problem recently where my automation was being ignored by Cubase 5.5.3 (e.g. simple volume curves on audio tracks). I tried a few things (e.g. checking the automation panel, having Cubase rebuild my preferences), but it turns out all I needed was a reboot. Perhaps this is brought on by Windows 7 going in/out of sleep mode. I sometimes have Cubase open when Windows goes to sleep, but it’s normally been fine. Either way, I wanted to post this in case anyone else runs into this problem.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to let your computer sleep when running Cubase.

Yes indeed. It’s also a good idea to close and restart Cubase every few hours, as things have a tendency to get out of whack.
