Automation Writing Issue Cubase 14 Pro

Hi folks
When I write automation for tracks in Cubase 14 Pro (MacStudio M2 Ultra, Sequoia), quite often after disabling “Write Mode” the “W” extinguishes BUT the Automation Lane remains RED and the Automation Lane refuses to be READ or to be manually edited.
The screen shot shows how a track with recorded volume automation appears AFTER the “Write” button is deactivated.

This has been happening for a while and can be fixed by closing the Project and restarting Cubase, but it’s a bit of a pain…

Any ideas, or is it a Cubase bug?

This happens pretty frequently when I put automation into write mode on a VST or channel. When I’m down I click off write mode but the channel stays red and I can’t edit it, as it still acts like it’s in write mode. The only solution I’ve found is closing the session and re-opening it. It’s a serious flow killer. Thx! B

Do you use any hardware Remote Device? What kind of?

I have a couple of MIDI keyboard controllers connected and a Nektar Panorama CS12. All of which I use at times to write the automation. It isn’t a reproducible thing however and only appears AFTER a little while working with Cubase, which makes me think it is a software issue…

Since the problem is known and seems quite extensive given all the posts in the previous thread you linked, I’m surprised it’s been going on for so long with no clear solution as yet.

I started facing this a few days ago and came across multiple threads regarding the same. I too was using the Track Enable/Disable work-around for a while. But then I tried changing my Global Automation mode from Auto-Latch to Touch and it seems to fix the issue for me(at least for the time being). Come to think about it, I started seeing this issue first after changing my Global Automation mode. I’ve changed the mode back to Auto Latch but the issues doesn’t seem to be cropping up. Making this small change does seem to have helped my experience of this phenomenon.
It’s fixed it so far in my latest Cubase session and Project.

The information may help Steinberg in their effort to fix the problem?

I just noticed the same problem and came here to look for a solution. The touch trick does it for me atm however the main bug occurs all the time in latch mode. Hoping for a fix soon. Thx for the temporary solution!

Since changing automation input to “Touch” mode I’ve not experienced this bug again! I use Cubase daily and frequently apply automation BTW, it’s not just an occasional thing.
