After working for two hours on a project, my laptop crashed. Although set to autosave every five minutes, there was no autosave dialog upon restarting Dorico. I have searched where the autosave file should be but do not see anything there after a save about 2 hours prior. Is all of my work lost, or am I missing something?
On Windows, the AutoSave folder is found here… (You may need to show hidden folders in File Explorer)
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Dorico 5
@sherylneal1, take a look in your Trash (macOS) or Recycle Bin (Windows). Any back-up or auto-save files that Dorico has deleted are moved to the trash rather than deleted outright, so you may well find backups and/or auto-saves in there.
Thank you all for your quick replies! I did find files in the recycle bin, and the autosave feature is now working properly, after I went in and adjusted some of the settings.
While this strikes me as odd behavior for auto save when compared to other programs (both notation and otherwise), now that I know it happens, I consider you a life saver, sir! Or at least a sanity-saver! Out of curiosity, why does Dorico auto-delete auto-save files? That seems counterintuitive. My auto-save folder was completely empty when I went to it earlier, prompting me to seek the answer you provided here.
My guess would be that, if it did not auto-delete, you might easily run out of disk space.
Files in the Recycle Bin still take up disk space, though.
Yes, but emptying that is simple (and part of normal PC maintenance routines). Even finding the location of the Autosave folder is a challenge!
