Avoid/Minimize gap to the left of vertical lines

I am in a situation where I need a lot of fingering notation for the piano, where the thumb is used to play two notes at once. This is usually indicated by « 1[ » to the left of the note.

Dorico’s built-in solution is not what I need: the fingering with the bracket is below/above the note; by forcing it to the left in the engraving options, the bracket disappears, leaving two ones.

The solution I am currently going for is to create a new vertical line which does the job quite well.

However, I was browsing through the options and this forum, I do not find a way, to avoid the gap that Dorico inserts to left of the vertical line. I have found an option for the right gap, but not for the left.

Ideally, I would have the same horizontal output as without the bracket; that is, the vertical line would not take up any horizontal space.

I am open to any suggestions how to deal with this properly. Maybe there is a better solution, than disguising this fingering scenario with a vertical line.

It has been suggested to us before that we should make it possible to tell Dorico that these lines should not be accounted for in horizontal spacing, either by default or for an individual line, and this is something we are looking at implementing in a future version of the software.
