Avoid vertical adjustments for custom line

My goal here is to have some rotated text after the end of the last system:

So I’ve created a custom vertical line with a line annotation that has the text I want to display. I can put that on the last note of the piece and drag it past the system in engrave mode:

And that works. But the one thing is that it really throws off the vertical spacing between the staves; ideally those last two staves would be as close together as the other staves are. (And they are that close together without the vertical line.) So then I need to use the engrave tool to adjust the spacing of all the staves in the final system.

Is there a way to disable the vertical staff adjustments for this vertical line? There is an “avoid collisions” option for the custom line, but it affects only horizontal collisions and not the vertical spacing.

If you go to Engrave mode, select the line and open the Properties panel.

I think there will be a property there called Avoid collisions. Activate it and make sure it’s unticked.

Does this help?

No, the “avoid collisions” affects only the horizontal collisions and not the vertical spacing.

What happens if you select notes at the same rhythmic position in both staves of the grand staff instrument before adding your custom vertical line? When I do this, the line doesn’t change the vertical spacing between the staves:

Hmm, I’m not following what I need to do I guess. If I select the bottom-most note, and then shift-select the top-most note, and then select the custom line, I get six copies of the line, and all of them space the systems. The same is true if I select the notes and shift-select individual notes.

Or maybe I have defined my custom line differently than you?

I didn’t create a custom vertical line. I selected the notes at the same rhythmic position in the bottom two staves (assuming that these staves belong to the same grand staff instrument), added a solid vertical line and used the Text property to add the desired text. I also used the font style Vertical Line Font to change the size of the text.

Ah, thank you! This is much easier than a custom line!
