I’ve got a project with several flows. In the editing of the first flow, I need to make some Layout adjustments. How can I do this with my layout changes not affecting all the other flows? Thanks
What sort of adjustments?
I’m deciding between Frame Breaks and/or Casting Off at 3 bars per system. Both make the score for this flow very presentable than what I have now.
Using breaks is a local thing, it’s not going to affect the whole document (more than the obvious consequences of a break).
Casting off will rule the entire layout it’s being applied to.
Thanks Marc! Just for clarity, using either a Frame Break or Casting Off will only affect the Flow I am editing and not affect any of the others? The way I’m understanding you is frame breaks are local and casting off is global. Is that right?
Casting Off is per Layout, that’s why you find those settings in the Layout Options.
thanks kb, again tho, sorry to be so obtuse, but does each flow have its own layout?
A layout can contain 1, 2 or many flows.
Think of it as the booklet that you hand to the player or conductor.
Flows can be part of different layouts.
You can manually change certain aspects in a layout that contains many flows.
Examples: at any given point you can override the Note Spacing. At any System- or Frame-Break you can override the staff (rastral) size.
Casting Off will apply to the whole layout. It is not flow-specific.
Perfect, thank you
You can manually make changes though. e.g. if 90% of the time you know you want 5 systems per frame, go ahead and force this with casting off. If you need to make it 4 systems on one frame, put in a Frame Break where necessary. The casting off will still stay 5 systems per frame from the next page.
Good to know!
If casting off changes the pagination going forward, I expect it could alter any music on pages with overrides where the page will no longer match the music.
Yes, exactly. I was going to write that earlier.
