.bak files deleted error

Here is another update on this. Did a test and found something that is concerning:

-Open Session
-Cubase asks: “There are newer .bak files of this session, would you like to open that instead?”
-No
-Would you like to save that .bak file anyway?
-Yes
-Session opens.
-Quit the application.
-“Would you like to save?”
-“Don’t Save”
-Cubase DELETES THE .BAK FILE.

[MERGED POST]

-Open a session that has a newer .bak file
-Cubase asks: “There are newer .bak files of this session, would you like to open that instead?”
-No
-Would you like to save that .bak file anyway?
-Yes
-Session opens.
-Change something and quit the application.
-“Would you like to save?”
-“Don’t Save”
-Cubase deletes .bak file you previously told it to save.

I can understand why this happens, but it just seems like in principle Cubase should NEVER delete a users file like that.

Now that is a nasty one. Bug for sure. I’ll make a report- mainly what you said plus setup steps.

Cubase happily deletes all the .bak files also. Looks like the left hand added the dialog offering to keep the .bak file but forgot to tell the right hand not to delete it later.

Are you having a lot of crashes, that you get that dialog routinely?

(Also, I’m curious about when you first saw that Keep dialog? I had not come across it yet)

The user is asked if they want to keep a .bak file, but Cubase deletes it anyway with the following repro steps.

\

  • New project, save project
  • verify auto-save is active
  • add a track (for example)
** do not save- wait for autosave to save a .bak file
  • Force-quit Cubase (e.g., from task Manager)
  • Open previously saved project
** Prompt: “There are newer .bak files of this session, would you like to open that instead?”
    ** Click ‘No’
** Prompt: Would you like to save that .bak file anyway?
    ** Click ‘Yes’
** Wait for project to open, then quit Cubase
    ** When prompted, Don’t Save

Result: All .bak files are deleted, none are kept
