Banjo harmonics tab

Natural harmonics at the 5th fret on the 2nd and 3rd strings look fine. But 1st and 2nd strings don’t. If I pair the high d on the first string with g harmonic on the 3rd string at the 5th fret, it will tab properly, but otherwise interesting fractions…

I think you just need to set the “String” property in the Properties panel appropriately, e.g.

Excellent, Richard. Worked like a charm. If you have a moment to explain how I could have known to do that, that might be of value? Thanks.

If you do nothing to tell it otherwise, Dorico will normally put notes at the lowest fret position they can be played (given any other notes that are already playing). I’m not sure how well those fractional fret positions of e.g. 2.3 or 3.9 sound on a banjo, but on guitar (particularly electric) they’re audible, so that’s what it’s suggested.

You might already be familiar with the way you can select a number on the tablature staff and use the “n” or “m” shortcuts to move the note to adjacent strings - all that that’s actually doing is setting the “String” property. However, the “n” or “m” shortcuts sometimes run into problems with harmonics, because they only move the note to the adjacent string, and sometimes the next playable harmonic is more than one string away.
