I need a 5/4 bar in the middle of a 4/4 phrase. I selected the bar that need to change, summoned the measure box and types 5/4. After hitting the return key I got this, which is still a 4/4 bar length.
Activate insert mode (I) before you add the signature change, and you’ll get what you want
