In this example, Dorico decides to move the chord symbol line upwards to avoid collision with the bar numbers. Is there some setting to have it move the bar numbers up instead, keeping the chord symbols close to the stave? I could not find anything on this forum and in the respective setting sections.
P.S. For the record, offsetting either the bar number (horizontally and/or vertically) or the first chord symbol (horizontally) via their respective properties dialogue will not reposition the chord symbol line to its default defined in the settings. Is this intentional?
make the bar numbers font size a little smaller (from Paragraph Styles) so that with the repeat counting it doesn’t take so much space (now your bar numbers are as big as your Chors symbols):
deactivate Avoid Collisions from Layout Options/Bar Numbers and then adjust the bar number position in Engrave mode. (This may lead to other collisions though, so check your score). Unfortunately this is only a per-layout option: it would be nice if there would be a possibility to override this on a local base, with the Properties panel:
Thank you very much for all the suggestions and detailed walkthroughs!
Number 5 is probably what I will do, but I may also take a shot at the other options, especially decreasing the bar numbers font size.
But do I get this right that there currently is no way to prioritize the user defined chord symbol position default over the bar numbers position default?
And I am still puzzled that the chord symbol line doesn’t return to its default position when the properties are used to avoid the collision manually, tbh (I mean, I didn’t include vertically offsetting the chord symbol intentionally, because then the chord symbol line itself would be overridden of course). I can’t really believe that this behaviour is intentional, and if it is, what the rationale behind this may be.
Changing the offsets of items in the properties panel doesn’t affect/change the collision avoidance needed space that their “original” position calculates. This means that, if no Avoid collision property override is present in the Properties Panel for a particular item, even if you change the offset of an item, the place that it occupies, remains the same. This is of course good, otherwise the whole score (and several other items) would move, when making some offset change in one item.
