Context: I have begun an arrangement of some carols for a small ensemble. Each carol is to be added as a new flow in the project.
Issue: When I open the clarinet part, the bar widths appear to have collapsed from bar 10 in the 2nd flow. Please see the attachment with all signposts turned on. I can’t see anything in the score at that point to account for it, nor in the specific layout options for the clarinet.
The only remedy I have tried so far is to close and reopen he project. If I correct the issue, I’ll repost here, but perhaps the development team might want to see the project (attached).

In Engrave Mode, select the System Break of bar 10, and in the properties panel, switch off “Wait for next System break”.

Many thanks @charles_piano. That solved the issue. It has left me with a number of questions though.
Bearing in mind, I discovered the “crushed bars” the first time I opened the Clarinet part, how come there are any FRAME and SYSTEM BREAKs at all, which I now understand are manually added?
How come there are so many and why in one part but not the others? I’m happy to find there aren’t any elsewhere, but what logic and context could account for this inconsistency?
The guidance indicates the system and frame breaks are only added in specific circumstances through the Engrave tab. That makes sense, but what I’ve described above implies there are other ways they could be created. Does anyone have an insight here?

Could you have inadvertently clicked the “Lock Layout” button in the left column in Engrave Mode? That puts system/frame breaks at every system…
If not, it’s not easy to guess what happened!
Thank you for replying so quickly @charles_piano .
I don’t recall doing it or opening the part in Engrave mode, but engaging the Lock Layout does seem to be the most plausible answer. The program is working as designed.
Some good always comes from such misadventures. Thanks to you (and the Dorico team or course), I now have more tools in my layout kitbag.
