Bars 1 to 4 duplicated on page 1 and page2...?

Hi Dorico folks!
Finale migrant here - please be kind! Loving Dorico so far - and definitel not falling into the trap of trying to make Dorico behave anything like Finale…!!!

I accept I may be trying to run before I can walk here, but I’m trying to create a custom project template to match the ensemble forces I usually write for. In doing that I seem to have the first four bars duplicated on page one and page 2 and can’t for the life of me work out how to resolve that.

When I’d added all the players I needed in Setup mode, Dorico moved the initial system onto the second page (presumably because there wasn’t enough space on page 1 for the current spacing settings). So I reduced the rastral size and some inter-staff spacing and that moved it back on to page 1 - success!! However, after I added a time sig, key sig and a few bars, the first 4 bars appeared on page 2 as well as on page 1. When I added brackets to the staves on page 1, they weren’t also added to page 2 - and if I manually tried to added them on page 2 they disappeared from page 1. If I deleted the bars from page 2, they were also deleted from page 1.

Any ideas what I’ve done - and how to get out of this…?

Many thanks in advance.
Dave.

Welcome to the forum. Without seeing the project or at least a screen shot, it’s hard to visualize what’s going on. A screen shot while you are in Engrave mode, with the music, and the right side panel visible, would help. (One thing, you shouldn’t have any red triangles on the pages in the right panel, at least not when designing a template).

Welcome.
It’s going to be simplest to resolve if you can upload your project so far.

Yeah!

Hi guys,
Many thanks for the quick replies. I seem to have resolved the problem - although I don’t know how I did it…!! Anyway, as a learning exercise I’m going to start from scratch again with the template to make sure I can do it again (first time can always be a fluke…!!!).

(By the way, I didn’t get notified that there were replies pending - I only saw your replies when I switched to the right tab in my browser. I guessing that’s a setting somewhere in the forum?)

Thanks again,
Dave.

Welcome!

The same music duplicated is usually a case of the wrong Frame Chains being set on the Music Frames.

MA means the “Master”(i.e. the Template) first chain.

If you make a Music frame on a page (not on the template), then that will be LA (“Local”).

The number after MA refers to the order of frames in the chain. So music flows from MA 1 to MA 2 to MA 3 on a page.

If your frame says “MB” or “MC” or “LA”, then you’ll get a repeat of the whole flow.

Yes! I think that’s exactly what the problem was - thanks so much! I hate not knowing the root cause of a problem (even if I manage to work around it!!!).
Thanks,
Dave.
