Basics Drumline - can't get it working?

Hello all,

I write primarily for marching bands, and normally I have someone else writing percussion for me but one situation which I’m in at the moment requires me to write the drumline parts as well, which I’m familiar with doing, but now that Dorico 6 has the basic drumline patches I would like to use those. My issue seems to be that I can’t get it working the way I expect it to.

I’ve first set up the regular “Marching Snares” instrument, which is a regular 5 line staff (and is preferred) and then selected the instrument in Halion Sonic 7 and set the correct percussion map within the play panel. That doesn’t seem to work at all. I can’t get any of my sounds to play at all when doing this, and midi keyboard input doesn’t work at all.

Looking at the percussion map, it looks like the instrument specified is “Marching Snare Drum (1 Line)”, so I tried using that instrument instead. Midi input works just fine, except I can’t hear any of the other sounds, it all “sounds” as the regular snare hit. I’m planning to write for all instruments (snare, bass, and tenor) and I haven’t got the slightest clue what I’m doing, I guess.

UPDATE - I got it working, kind of… it was in preferences, percussion was set to “midi input” and not “percussion map”, so when I fixed that it allowed me to input midi notes for my percussion parts properly based on the percussion mapping.

This works great for tenors and basses. I can get each drum, rim shots, etc, all by just pushing the correct midi key. however with snares every note seems to show up just as a C on the staff with no note head, making it so that i have to go back each time and set them to the proper note head in order to get the correct playback (for rimshots and such).

Thoughts?
