My bass drum has a flute sound now. I quit Dorico and restarted, but still.I don’t do anything advanced with sounds, I just use the playback template for NotePerformer.
And why is it that I suddenly have to use that Template option often when I reopen an project? This “auto” template function seems to do more harm than good when you’re (like me) more a musician then a technician. Can I disable this? I just want to use NotePerformer for the rest of my life.
Thank you! That last respond was helpful. That solved the “auto”-issue! I’m very sorry that all this really is too advanced for me to find out by myself. Thanks for the help. My two kickdrums are still flute sounds, any thoughts about that? I didn’t do anything regarding sounds because I really have no idea how to do that. It just happened.
Usually simply reapplying a playback template will solve these problems.
Try going to Play>Playback template… selecting NotePerformer and hitting Apply & Close.
What this does is to clear out all the current sounds and reload everything according to the chosen template.
Any news about this? It’s taking me an awful lot of time, almost every time I reopen the file it is a flute sound again and I have to do this routine. Anyone has a more permanent solution?
I find that I am having the identical problem (“Kick Drum” wants to play back as a flute when I have chosen NP Drum Set). This “change instrument” in Setup solution seems to be working so far, though it’s too early to tell if it will persist after quitting and reopening.
Alas no, this is still unsolved for me. I did succeed in changing the sound of Kick Drum (for which I’ve now chosen the “Very Low” alternative) to something other than a flute, but it’s now apparently playing as a woodblock. Anything but an actual low drum sound, it seems. All the other timbres in NP Drum Set seem to be playing back appropriately.
It’s a problem I’ve talked about in another thread, my supposition is that the problem comes from the way the Playback Templates do consider instruments that have been added with the Marching Percussions. Should you pick the correct bass drum, everything runs fine. If it’s a kick from Marching Percussions, NotePerformer picks a flute or a conga…
The problem, then, will be that NotePerformer’s playback template needs to be updated to include all the instrument presets that Dorico provides. Some must be missing.
I want to ensure I understand the problem: The marching percussion doesn’t fall back to the orchestral sounds, so we must map them as separate entries in the percussion map?
I made a quick fallback map (see attachment). Is the problem resolved by importing this map and using it for the affected staves?
(Importing only adds the new percussion map “NP Orchestral Percussion (Marching Band Mapping)”. It must be manually chosen for the marching percussion staves.)
Thanks for this. Where should I put that .doricolib file to test it? (I’ve tried DefaultLibraryAdditions in the Dorico 6 folder but it did not work).
[Edit] I found out that it should be imported as a percussion map. It worked on the file I had for the marching bass drum, but the marching cymbal (one line) still plays a conga…
It’s working perfectly on my test file. Thank you so much, Arne!
[Edit] Using the original file I was sent, I find it does not work… the cymbal sounds like a flute and this file might help you track down why, and the kick (which should be bass drum, the problem being that it’s the same name in French, so there should be some way to choose the appropriate instrument, that could be another thread for the Team here…) sounds like a high conga…
