I was watching the ‘Make Pop Music’ youtube guy show it. In the comments he was talking to someone about the cpu use.
So I’m trying the demo. It’s extremely sweet, but watching the Audio Performance Monitor, it’s peaking up to 50% of my cpu with a basic retrologue 2 arp. Oof
Talking about thick bass sounds - it’s also helpful to keep in mind that handling low frequencies is a very delicate issue. For one, a lot is happening in the low end with regard to frequency distribution. It happens very fast and you have conflicting instruments fighting over the same small pocket and things start to get muddied up. Also, subs require a lot of energy. That has a severe impact on the overall headroom and you might end up with an unbalaced mix.
There’s endless advice on handling the classic kick drum - bass relationship. Maybe that’s a good starting point, too.
Mastering the mix have bassroom. That’s more of a master effect for the entire mix. I’ve used it for pop stuff. Don’t know about heavy bass music. BASSROOM | Low-End Mastering EQ Plugin
To stick with Waves… Waves Submarine is a sub-harmonic generator that adds synthesized low frequencies to the audio by tracking pitch and dynamics. It offers 2 oscillators which can be set 1 or 2 octaves below the original signal.
The level knobs are sonar readouts. Faceplate is colored as deep water, with the sub near the bottom of the sea, silently cruising along menacingly, armed to the teeth and ready to strike. And the name of the plugin is the wake of its propellers. With the rest of the gui looks like something you would find on a real sub comms console.
