for editing large amounts of samples at once, with one sample per track, then overwriting the source files with the edits, what’s the best way to do the save all function after the edits?
there is bounce, render in place, export selected events. i can’t seem to find a function that will “save all” and let you overwrite the files that are being immediately referenced in the project. is there a function like that? i also tried dragging all from the arrangement back to the source folder but it says
Hi,
Go for Bounce Selection, and Replace the events.
in preferences i selected replace audio in project, and on import i leave “copy files” unchecked. using those settings, the project seems to reference the files from their original location, but on “bounce selection”, it then creates copies into the project audio folder.
i did found a concerning behavior in the pool, where if you delete the files in the pool, having chosen not to import them to the project, and then empty the pool trash, the pool will in fact delete the files remotely from their original location, erased from hard disk. i would like to utilize this remote file capability, but to make edits to the files referenced remotely, and overwrite the originals at their referenced location.
bounce selection makes a copy into the project audio folder which i don’t want, render in place can be set to write the output to the referenced folder but it makes a copy with a numerical suffix on the name and creates duplicate tracks, and export selected events can be set to the referenced location and provides a prompt to “overwrite” referenced sample, but viewing the exported new files after trimming the length of the audio event in the arranger, the sample length remains unchanged. it looks like trimming the length of the audio event doesn’t change the length of the sample when exported.
i’m looking for a quick way to use cubase as a batch editor for 128 samples at a time, drag them into the arrangement onto individual tracks from the source location, trim all their lengths, then immediately overwrite the originals. is there a better software solution for this type of workflow? cubase is built like a factory it seems there is a minimum quantity order to process anything and options are dizzying.
