I am trying to simply remove the existing file name and replace with 2 incrementing digits. But instead of incrementing, WL is overwriting by naming them each one 01 as it comes out of the batch processor. I even tried using the factory preset for a counter and had this problem.
Give an example of what transformation you would like.
It’s attached: Remove the entire current name and replace with incrementing digits (01, 02, 03, etc.),
No, if you remove everything, you cannot replace something afterwards.
This is why I ask you to give a concrete example with a file name, “before and after”. So that I really see what you mean.
Ok: Replace

with
01
Using the settings of your picture, it works here (I have set nothing in prefix field).
I have tried both with the batch renaming tool and the batch processor tool.
Weird– when I tried to add a counter prefix with the factory preset (unedited) it also failed to count. I didn’t know there was a separate batch re-naming tool, good to know.
In the batch processor, you could also use the naming scheme feature, which is probably easier to use.
Yes, can you clarify the difference between them in the batch processor and when you might use over the other? What happens if both are used? I’ve been wondering about that.
In the WaveLab history, the programming tool was created first.
• The renaming tool is specialized to transform an existing filename into another.
• The naming scheme tool is specialized to compose a new filename from various elements, including the original name.
• The renaming tool is generally more powerful but more complex to use. It can do most of what the naming scheme tool can, but not all.
• The naming scheme tool is easier to use and can be used to create subfolders too. I recommend using this tool first.
When there are 5 files with names
Take 1, Take 2, Take 3, Take 4 and Take 5, and user want to rename these to A, B, C, D and E, it is easier with Batch Renaming under File-Tools.
Now if these 5 files are loaded into a Batch Processor and Renaming is used, and are batched to source folder, wouldn’t there be 5 extra files with new names in the source folder?
Is there a way to replace files with their new name, when batched to source folder?
