I have Dorico 6 Pro, recently bought BBCSO Pro and BBCSO Pro Piano.
When I use “BBCSO Pro with Piano” as playback template,
then add Violin and Piano
the Violin Routing show “02-BBCSO Violin 1”, and the Ex map show “BBCSO Pro Violin 1”,
the Piano Routing show “03-BBCSO Piano”, but the Ex Map show “Default”, is this correct?
I would expect something like “BBCSO Piano” or “BBCSO Pro Piano”
Thanks
“Default” is a simple map that uses velocity for dynamics. I can’t think of much else you would need with a piano.
Really? I always assumed Default used a different controller, at least for sustaining instruments. I’ve never actually examined the programming behind it; could Default sense whether an instrument used velocity or a Controller Code for volume and reacted accordingly?
No magic. It’s just one base switch (Natural) with velocity as volume dynamic.
unless the piano has some very specific pedalling or other unusual techniques (the BBCSO doesn’t), the default map is fine for piano – I never use anything else. What is useful for piano is to ensure you have “use automatic instrument polyphonic voice balancing” activate in Playback options as that can save a lot of time in getting realistic playback.
