I really like a lot of the automatic handling of things Dorico does, but sometimes I wish it would stop helping. Can’t seem to get the beaming I want in this 6/4 measure. Here’s how Dorico has done it:

Have you checked notation options?
Yes, I think I’ve tried every option to get beams for only 1/4 note groupings, as well as using force duration when entering the notes
Change the 6/4 meter to [1+1+1+1+1+1]/4
Where do I do that?
Just double-click the 6/4 time signature and type it in the popover .
Yeah- that worked, I was looking in Properties, why is it not there?
Can I set it so this would be a default?
How could I have seen how it’s formatted before I changed it?
You can show what it is set to using the numerator style property (set it to beam group)
If you have a number of different groupings for the same time signature (eg [3+3]/4 or [2+2+2]/4) it can be helpful to set this as the default in Engraving Options, so you can see what’s going on. Then, when you are happy, change the option back to the normal one.
No, you can’t set a particular grouping as a default (but you can alt-click copy one from place to place as needed)
