Beaming irregular groups

Hi -

Hopefully this question has been answered elsewhere. It’s entirely possible that I am not even wording my question correctly as I search for replies.

I am trying to beam together a melisma of seven 32nd-notes into one beat. How do I do this?

Thanks for directing me to the right source or replying with any help. Much appreciated!

So you want 7 32nd notes to take up the space of one quarter? Open the tuplet popover by typing ; then type 7:8y and hit Enter. After you’ve entered the 32nd notes, type Shift+; to exit tuplet mode.

Excellent! Thanks! Worked perfectly. What does the “y” signify?

h=half

q=quarter

e=eighth

[entering the twilight zone…]

x=16ths

y=32nds

z=64ths

(It feels okay to me that x is for sixteenth, and then y and z are just for the next smaller units.)
