I am typing in a piece that varies from 2/2 to 3/2. Despite this, in 2 of the 3 instrument parts there are mostly quarters, eighths, and sixteenth notes. For ease of reading I want to beam 4 sixteenths, an eighth to 2 sixteenths, etc. together. With notation options I can set the beaming to work that way for 2/2, but I can’t find a way to enable this for 3/2. Is there a way to do this in Dorico Pro 5, and if not, can it be done in Pro 6?
I guess there is NO answer. It must be impossible in Dorico Pro 5 or 6.
You can always force duration during entry.
Hi @frank.fitzpatrick, unfortunately no (quite) automatic method. But for the 3/2 you can, for subsequent adjacent bars with 3/2, after writing the 3/2 for the first bar and splitting the beams manually, insert a (1+1+1+1+1+1/4) time signature (the parentheses make it hidden) for the subsequent bars. This forces the beam grouping into quarter notes groups.
You can then copy the signpost and paste in other places (but the first 3/2 of each group needs to be (un)-beamed manually):
