Beams jumping

No matter how I adjust the voices, I can’t manage to show this beamed note where I want it. Replicatable as shown here.

The cue notes were originally stems up (they’re Upstem Voice 2, not actual cues). I want to show this stem direction for the cue-size notes, except with the whole note below:

I managed it by setting both voices to Downstem Voice 1/2.

This is the expected behaviour, for what it’s worth. Beams will avoid other notes in the same voice direction.

In Dan’s case, is the beam avoiding a non-existent stem as an edge case?

Yeah, okay; there’s two whole notes! I used two different ways of doing this.
1). I managed the one on the left by putting it in the stem down voice. The run is in the stem up voice but flipped. I had to align the voice columns afterwards.
2). The second whole note was added with the Musglyphs font from a really excellent user on this forum — perhaps you’ve heard of him! :wink: (Just teasing — Thanks Dan)
I know that either way there would be playback problems but you could make it work visually…

And I agree that it might be nice to have a collision avoidance override feature (as difficult as it may be to implement.)

@dan_kreider

I don’t understand why one can move the beam to the positions shown in the first or second example but anything higher yields the third example:

I was not able to find a work-around for this.

This situation does arise, and one needs to be able to position the beam wherever necessary.

I’m having the same trouble with a passage from Debussy’s Reflets dans l’eau. File attached, this is in bar 30 (some engraving trickery required in the piece, but this beaming seems like it should work).
