Is it ok to attach a Dorico file as an example of what I’m working on and asking a question about it?
Thanks,
B
Yeah, of course!
Most of the times this will be much more usefull than only describing the problem, and sometimes it is the only way people will be able to help you.
Yes. In fact this is even encouraged in this pinned thread:
(see point 4)
@Estigy @Frigolito
Thanks so much for your help!
I truly look forward to a day when I can be helpful to others learning the program. But, I’ve got a long way to go!
Hi, I am a long time Finale user and recently moved to Dorico. I am trying to learn its idiosyncrasies but, I recently found something I can’t resolve. I am writing a leadsheet in 2/4 with mostly one chord per bar and sometimes two. TWhen I view the part all bars with one chord show with a rest and a number 1 on top. It does not haven when there are two chords. I can’t find a way to remove the number. Can someone more experienced in that help. Thank you. I am attaching a snip of the resulting part.
Welcome to the forum @Paris_Psaros.
You can adjust how whole bar rests are displayed via Engraving Options. I’m not in a position to check why this might be happening, sorry.
Uploading a small portion of this project (e.g. this section) would be very helpful for those who are in a position to help.
Hi @Paris_Psaros, and welcome to the Forum!
(It would be better if you could create a new topic for your request, being it different than the original topic.)
Anyway: the numbers 1 that you see are multi-bar rests. They are being splitted into single multi-bar rests when the chord appears at the beginning of the bar. When you have two chords, there is no multi-bar rest because the chord in the middle splits that further. Here the Engraving option to not see the number 1:
Or you can deactivate multi-bar rests for the desired layout in layout options > Players > Bars and Multi-Bar Rests:
Thank you all for the invaluable help. I see that there are many option in different places that can affect it. I used the option in the engraving panel and problem solved. Thank you Christian_R
Welcome to the forum @Paris_Psaros !
In case you haven’t found it yet, here’s the relevant page from the Dorico Pro 5 manual. I would recommend bookmarking the online manual, as it’s quite flexible in search terms (for example, this page was the 2nd result when searching “bar rest number 1”)
