Beginner question about piano hands and invisible rests

I’m working my way through the beginners’ guide for Dorico and I thought I would begin notating one of my simpler piano solos in order to practise. But I’ve run into an issue that’s quite minor but a little baffling.

When both hands are playing low on the keyboard, I usually like to place all the notes on the lower stave, with upward stems indicating right hand. But doing this in Dorico doesn’t seem intuitively easy. Ideally, I’d like to have RH voices that jump between staves, and also leave whole bars in the upper stave empty (without even rests) to indicate that everything has moved to the other stave. Is there a best approach for making this kind of solo piano notation?

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Welcome to the forum @Michael_Torr

  • Enter the notes in the upper staff.
  • Select the notes which should be moved to the lower staff.
  • Press M.

And the opposite – move notes to the adjacent staff above – is N

Thank you SO much! That is exactly what I needed
