Ben’s Early Music Bundle

Hello.

I purchased Ben’s Early Music Bundle today. I installed the C libraries clefs.doricolib and Bracketura.doricolib as described in the accompanying documentation, in this location:

C:\Users\youraccount\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Dorico 6\DefaultLibraryAdditions\

but neither of them appears automatically in the panel on the right.

What should I do?

I think that’s the correct location on Windows – it should be the same location as various other user configuration files, like userlibrary.xml, key_commands,json, the AutoSave folder, etc.

You have restarted Dorico…?

Just to be sure: You used your actual user name here, right? Not the literal string “youraccount”?

It should work with Dorico 5, also.

Oh, really? It’s the same on macOS for all versions. Can you explain further?

The path would need to have Dorico 5, not Dorico 6.

I’m helping Cesar troubleshoot this issue and we have tried the following:

  1. Copied the libraries on his Windows’ computer at the path indicated on the documentation.
  2. Launched Dorico (it was completely shut off)
  3. Libraries doesn’t load (He is using Dorico Elements 6)

Per a comment on the forum this forum, it seems Library Manager is restricted to Dorico Pro.

We tried on Mac with Dorico Pro and it initially didn’t installed. However, I found that the .zip file expanded the C Clef.dorilib as .doricolib.xml - After renaming the extension from .doricolib.xml to .doricolib, we made it work on Dorico Pro on Mac.

If indeed Dorico Elements is restricted and won’t load the library, it would be good for the library documentation to call out this specifically, to avoid any confusion.

Any ideas?

I was unaware of this limitation. If it can be confirmed, then I will add that to the documentation.

In the meantime – it may be possible to create a Dorico project file that contains these elements, which can be used as a template.

The Library Manager is only available in Dorico Pro, I’m afraid.

What sort of customization etc are you looking to achieve? It might still be possible without the Library Manager.

I’d love more information on how we can create a Dorico project that contains these elements. It may help unblock Cesar and his project.

Someone (probably me) would have to create a Dorico project file that contains the elements you need; then Cesar would be able to use it as a template for other projects.

The Library Manager is something different from the DefaultLibraryAdditions folder, of course.

Agreed, yet a presumed restriction worth researching it, since Cesar was unable to load the C clefs on Dorico Elements (on Windows) but they loaded on Dorico Pro (on Mac)

I think you can still create your own Playing Techniques in Elements, using the Bracketura font. The .doricolib just provides them already made.
