Best GPU for Spectralayers

Hi all! I’m between buyng a RTX 3060 12GB or an RTX4060 8GB, as they both cost the same right now on a local sale here (I’m in Brazil).

I’m planning on upgrading to one of them, since I feel that my 1060 6GB is not up to the task of multi displays, 4k, video playback and Spectralayers in 4k and higher resolutions.

The 4060 benchmarks higher than the 3060 and is newer, but the 3060 has significantly more RAM.

Could you help pointing me to the one that would be better for SL performance GUI-wise? I mean bein able to work with higher resolutions, bigger spectrogram, less eraser lag, etc.etc. The GPU acceleration for the “AI” modules side of things would be nice, but not my priority.

Maybe @Robin_Lobel could shine a light on what parameters to look for when shopping for GPUs to use with SL?

Thanks!

I think RAM is the most important in A.I stuff

For now 8GB is plenty sufficient, and it’s unlikely SL12 would use more - I have to keep it reasonable so a wider range of GPU can be used for AI acceleration.
So I would go for the RTX 4060, if that can fit in your computer (RTX 4000 are bigger and more power hungry than RTX 3000).

How about just using the available memory of a GPU?
With more memory the result may be better in quality or the calculations are faster.

Most AI models use a specific, fixed amount of memory, because they are structured and trained in a fixed way - they don’t scale up or down depending on available memory.

Thank you for chiming in, @Robin_Lobel !

Do you think the 12gb would have an edge in a multi-monitor 4k setup? I Usually run 1 main 4k display (where SL runs), 2 1080p displays for meters and plugins, and a 4k TV for the video playback. In this contextdo yo think I’d benefit from the extra vram? Even if 8GB are enough for all the processing of SL.

Thanks again!

@henrique_staino it could possibily help in that particular setup indeed

running 3 monitors, RX 7600

did use NVIDIA 1660, noticed preference panel for display
redish thingy for 1660

changed to RX 7600 and preferences now look okay

my 2 cents
