Best PC For Cubase 12

Hi. I need to buy a new PC. What I know 100% I nave to buy a SSD 4 TB (1 for Windows and 3 for sound libraries) and RAM 64 GB… But I’m not sure about the rest. What processor is better for me and what speed?
I needed I7 - 12 or 13 th gen but i steel read in internet diferent resumes about this intel processor like: 12 and 13 gen are so bad for Cubase and so on….
Can someone else give me a right advice?
I nave Cubase 12 Pro. Scarlett 6/6.
I use Kontakt 7 and hudge Spitfire Audio Libraries. I need a fast PC With SSD 64, RAM 64. and fast processor with multi cores.

Thanks

Every person you ask this question is going to give you a different answer.
Personally, I stopped building my own PCs some 15 years ago. I use a company that specializes in building computers for A/V professionals and I haven’t looked back.

you don´t need 64 gb RAM but you need the best CPU that you can afford.

My experience tells me that it is not necessary to buy a PC from a specialized A/V company. I have never done it and I have never needed it.

The last configuration that I have bought is the following:

AMD Ryzen 7950X 5.7 GHz/ 128Gb DDR5 (Kingston Fury Beast 1x32GB)/ Asus DUAL GeForce RTX 3060 OC/ 3 x Samsung SSD 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe 4TB/ 1 x Seagate Barracuda 8TB

It works perfectly. Cubase 12 Pro loads in 7 seconds. I don’t have the slightest problem, even with very heavy projects.

By the way, I read in another post that you don’t need 64 GB of RAM. I don’t understand how someone can know your needs (unless he knows you well). As you can see I have installed 128 GB of RAM. It all depends on the type of projects you are working on.

The question is about the budget you have. The best PC is the most expensive.

You might benefit from this post of a guy who already did quite a bit of research …

If you are building yourself you have to do the research. As stated, you usually work from your budget and your needs.
I have had success with Gigabyte motherboards, and Intel CPU combos. Get fast ram as you can.
Other things to look for: CPU overclockable, stay away from fancy options that you don’t need. That just means more drivers you don’t need and could potentially be problematic to a low-latency build.
Oh, I also found that I required a lot of SATA ports for all my drives, and that the new SSDs have a m.2 format, so need those for sure.

it’s hard with the best pc though

they are very good to deal with, and they optimize and make everything clear for you.

I was thinking of buying there myself. But ended up building my own.
13700k ddr5 5600 8 TB nvne 990 pro with an asus prime z790-A Wifi. STRAIGHT POWER 11 850W Platinum.

if you need a computer right now then don’t buy something that is more expensive than 20-25 k, then it will last at least 3-5 years until the new technology has settled where hardware and software are stable.

the most important thing is to buy a good case and psu and ssd that you can take with you to the next build. because then you can put more money on the cpu and motherboard and ddr memory. and at the moment there are no really good cpu coolers yet. and I run on igpu.

Processor:
Intel i7 13700k

Motherboard:
Asus prime Z790-A wifi

Memory DDR5:
Corsair 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 5600MHz CL36 Vengeance
Manufacturer’s ArtNr: CMK32GX5M2B5600C36
CAS Latency: 36-36-36-76
Voltage: 1.25
Verse: 4.43.02

SSD:
4 pcs Samsung 990 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2TB OS drive vst library, sampling library projects ect

Samsung 870 EVO 500gb Cubase Project
Samsung 870 EVO 500gb cache disk RX10 and other programs
2 pcs Samsung 870 EVO 4tb audio library and backup
2 pcs Samsung T7 2TB backup

will get my regular ssd out of the computer and have them in a hub or something, there are 4-8tb NVMe gen 4 now. but in a year or so, the gen 5 ssd will come to the intel platform.

that’s what I thought, and it’s a good computer capable of approx. 100-150 tracks with a lot of routing and heavy vst and effects. but 32 gb of memory is a little too little 64 or 128 gb is better. but it’s not quite stable yet.

And yes you have right for DDR.but when i have alot of sample vst like halion piano and more it eats up memory. But if you just work with audio 32gb is good.

I have mine on 5,5 ghz stable.

the most important thing is that you have it as an audio pc and no other crap in it. should you play games build a computer for it…

and the most important thing is that if you don’t have the workflow right, then the strongest computer is still too weak, use busses, bounce, export as a new project when you’re done with each phase. and clean and nice sound files without any plugins for the next phase of the production. and freeze tracks you are done with.
work structured, keep track of tracks with a lot of latency then you can do wonders on an old compac from 1988 to

Hi,

Or… Think different. :wink::blush:

Sorry, I couldn’t resist…

would like to hear, because I have problems myself, and am in the middle of my development. as regards. what is best if i work in the box or have a hybrid setup? thinking of buying a mixer ssl big six. Yamaha CL1 is a bit too expensive hahaha

What stuff is the good stuff to have

Which motherboard did you use?

Intel(R) Core™ i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz 2.90 GHz

RAM 32. SSD 4

If you use lots of samples I would go 128g.

If you feel confident you can build your own PC, then go for it and same money. If you got a friend, how confident are you that your friend and will offer support considering the DAW?

If you are not confident, then I would suggest buying from a specialist in digital audio. They know what works best when combining parts. The advantages are after-the-service warranty, some are turn-key, and built by someone who knows DAWS. Mine at one time was even by an ex-employee of Steinberg. Because of this, you will pay more for a specialty built PC.

How serious are you?

As per Dom Sigalas live test, AMD is better on audio load than Intel, have a look at his video

This is a similar thread I started a while back:

The AMD spec I ended up with is noted in the threads. However, since then I bumped some problems which eventually got attributed to the RAM being too fast for the SSD to keep up, so I ended up putting a very fast SSD in place and everything is working fine now.

Lesson to be learned, even when a technical spec appears to have all the components working happily together, and companies like PC Solutions (that I used) approve the combinations, pushing Cubase hard can highlight unexpected issues that maybe wouldn’t be apparent to more casual users.

No easy answer to this one I’m afraid …

AMD is good, it i think intel wil fix the problem with steinberg to use E and P cores correcly, i think all problem we have ni is the new tech, and windows that are poop right now.

I bought

Processor:

Intel i7 13700k

Moderkort:

Asus prime Z790-A wifi

Minne DDR5:

Corsair 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 5600MHz CL36 Vengeance

Tillverkarens ArtNr: CMK32GX5M2B5600C36

CAS Latency: 36-36-36-76

Voltage: 1.25

Vers: 4.43.02

SSD:

Samsung 990 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1TB OS drive

Samsung 990 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1TB

Have alot of other ssd to.

And have alot of craches, and i think its the E cores and other hardware stuff. But with some tweking in bios and win 11. I can use 100-150 heavy use tracks.

And some latency optimising.

I want a DAW OS, windows have os for gamers, and why cant they just fix a button for creators that learn and optimise it self. And come with suggestion like try to do this and win 11 Will optimise further. I want a windows not a fuc… program and other poop, i want a clean win.

But if you have the money there is no problem with anything and you can have 2000 heavy tracks if you want hehe

If you dont need it now now, wait until the new cpu and intel motherboard will come dont know if its Z890

Hi, there! Somebody already asked, but I ask again, hope you don’t mind! What motherboard do you use? Thank you in advance,
Marius

Exacly, and they are pros to calibrate the hardware for audio and jitter latency, me i can work with it for weekend to tweek it in hehe. And there it not a singel motherboard that is optimised for midi amd and exact timing, correct me if there is a motherboard that is mtt optimised for exact and stable flow for data from hardware. Today we need to buy Very espensive sudiocard, when its only som smal stuf and the right stuf for like 50 % in a motherboard to fix all this.

Agree.
