Best practice for creating prelim pages

I’m trying to remember the best procedure for creating prelim pages at the front of score.

Currently, I’m doing the following:

  1. Insert a Master Change to “Title” Master on page 1.
  2. Insert a Page before page 2 with a “None” Master. (to create a blank page)
  3. Insert a Master Change to “First” on page 3.
  4. Insert a Page Number Change on page 3 to make it page 1.

All of that seems reasonable to me. I don’t think there’s another, more direct way.

That’s exactly how I do it. I like to avoid page overrides in this situation.

I think the catch is that this has to be the absolute very last step in the project. Following your steps everything should be fine, but if you change your mind and decide to delete the blank page for example, your layout formatting is now screwed up from that page onward, correct? I seem to recall being bit by this a while back, so I’ve always been saving a version without title pages first in case I ever needed to go back and edit the layout.

No, because I’ve got no manual formatting once the music starts!

But yes, if there were any Master/Flow Changes or layout overrides, they would be off by one after deleting the blank page.
