I finally created my first orchestral template in Cubase 14 Pro. Now I would like to create a backup of it. What would be the best way to achieve this?
I tried the built-in backup functionality but that does not save everything for me. I am using deactivated instrument tracks with track-specific icons. These icons do not get saved, only the ones from my group tracks which are always active in the template. This behavior happens with the default settings, e.g. option to remove unused files is not checked, but icons are somehow ignored anyway.
I am not sure if copying the folder with Mac finder will work better and correctly regarding project-internal links or references.
Create a folder somewhere (where you wanāt to store a backup of the project) then go File > Backup Project and save it to that folder. The backup will also create sub folders (Audio, Track Picutures etcā¦) in the location along with the .cpr file.
If at any point youāre working in a different project, and need to import tracks from your other template you can use File > Import > Tracks from Project.
I create a regular project, where I keep my projects, set it up to my taste and purpose, save it.
Do a Save As a New Version.
And thatās when I do a Save As Template.
Cubase will copy it where it should go.
If I want to update it (new FX or whatever), I use the project file, then Save As Template again, using the same (Cubase overwrites the old) or different filename.
Backup will be however you backup projects - I just use the Explorer to copy the whole shebang to a different physical drive.
Using āSave as a Templateā is a great option if you want to create a reusable project template accessible from the HUB for new projects. These templates are stored in a specific location on your system:
If you plan to uninstall Cubase but want to keep your templates, make sure to move them out of this directory beforehand. After reinstalling or upgrading, you can move them back into the appropriate folder.
If you still have the original project file saved elsewhere, thereās less need to worry; you can always reload it and use āSave as Templateā again to recreate it.
However, if youāve deleted the original project file and uninstall Cubase without backing up the templates from this folder, you risk losing them permanently.
For Cubase version upgrades (e.g., Cubase 13 to Cubase 14), you can transfer your project templates by moving them from the folder for the older version into the corresponding directory for the new version.
