Better control of number of bars per line please

The ‘new’ score editor does a good job to produce a nice layout automatically. But sometimes more control options would be helpful. E.g. the ability to fine-tune the number of bars per line could make a lead sheet more readable if the song structure is ‘non-standard’.

You can already do this in part through a combination of adding system breaks where needed and making sure that your rastral size makes the notes etc small enough that what you want to fit on a system is actually fitting on a system.

Good idea, I’ll check that out. Another workaround BTW

It’s not actually too much of a workaround. In the main Dorico program you do exactly the same thing (create system breaks where you want them), but in addition to this, you can also force as many bars as you want onto that system (instead of the default which allows Dorico to add its own system breaks in addition to the ones you have added), which is something that I hope will be added to Cubase. But the Dorico spacing algorithm will already try to accommodate as many bars on a system as it can by default without looking bad, so overloading a system to more than ~101 percent full will typically create some ugly-looking results that nobody would want. As a result, even in Dorico, I would most often reduce the rastral size anyway if I had a situation where I really wanted to fit more bars on a system than I was able to. Also in Dorico you can make temporary adjustments to the note spacing algorithm (I don’t think they give this option in Cubase) that will more tightly pack things for specific parts of the piece which can help in these cramped situations.
