Nah I really HATE the FLstudio workflow. IMHO Automation is supposed to be tied to unique note events in unique tracks. PERFECT and LOGICAL. As it is. So NO 
I suspect the programmers are smart enough to allow both. They’d kind of have to in order to not break older projects.

+1. Redrawing convex, concave, linear curves with points is slow and inaccurate. Some popular music styles (e.g. Dubstep and all it’s subgenres) pretty much require the ability to easily create controller/automation data in synth envelope-like shapes. This is slow and tedious without splines.
Another +1. Ableton’s ability to scale and manipulate curves is very smooth.
