Is possible to get bidirectional comunication with VST instruments without the use of Quick Controls?
Quick control can set bidirectional comunication with a remote device (Open Stage Control) but is limited to 8 parameters and i need more than 8.

Hi,
For example MIDI Remote can do so. What exactly do you want to achieve, please?
Hi Martin, I want to use the same MIDI CC (102-119) to control different tracks but share the same parameters, like Spitfire Symphonic Strings, there are a lot of differents articulations instruments that share the same parametes.
What I’m looking for is that when I change to another track in Cubase using the same instrument, OSC reflect this parameters so I always see what I have moved or used on the instrument since there is two-way communication between the instrument and the OSC. They are synchronized as if they were motorized faders.
I haven’t been able to do something similar without using this method and Quick Controls. I know it can be done in Cubase by assigning the same CCs to different channels (Ch01 CC102, ch02 CC102, etc.) but the Quick Controls is sufficient, easy to maintain and is less complicated in the long run and you can assign to Quick Controls the parameters that you want fom the QC drop down menu and save it for reuse later, also the QC is saved with “Export Selected Tracks” so this is great and fast way, but limited to 8.
Is possible to assign more than 8 parameters in Quick Controls?.
Hi,
No, it’s not possible.
What about to use MIDI Tracks instead of an Instrument Track and use the MIDI Sends to send the MIDI data out to the OSC?
Ops, Sorry, i using Track Instrument, but tested with MIDI tracks with the MIDI send dont work, there is not Bidirectional communication using this method.
The best approach i found is create some items with MIDI CC in Cubase MIDI Remote, map those items to to Quick Control in MIDI Remote Mapping Assistant (Selected Track / Quick Controls QC 1 to QC 8) and this way you get bidirectional communication between the instrument-track selected and OSC (or any other Device).
You have perfect visual of whats going on when composing with the tracks you select and dont need to open the plugin (In this case HZ Strings or whatever) to adjust those faders or other CCs because when you return to the track to continue edit or composing (i left the instruments open to see whats going on), Cubase QC send the positions of those QC to OSC, You dont need to program anything in OSC except assign some MIDI CC to some faders or buttons and make minor adjustments and select in QC what you need.
but as i said, 8 parameters is not enough. I Hope Steinberg can expand this functionality in the future, is a time saver.
Hi,
Have you tried with the MIDI Sends? You can record the source MIDI Data to the track. The MIDI Datea control the Instrument and at the same time, they are sent out to the MIDI Output (to your OSC). So it’s not bidirectional but one source Sends the datea to multiple destinations.
I did setups like this in the past.
But if this doesn’t work for you, you can also use Generic Remote Device, where you can also transmit the value out.
Thanks for the tip Martin, I’ll take a look.
