Big Bar Numbers

How do I get large bar numbers on my score. Either at the top or the bottom? And have regular sized in the middle - i.e. on top of the trumpets, trombones, etc.

I might be wrong, but I don’t think you can.

Here’s a (too) complicated way with a 0-line staff scaled to 60%.

Or a numbered bar repeat region scaled in size, shown in the score but not in the part. It will prevent multi-bar rests in the part, though.

Or the numbered bar repeat region in the 0-line staff. Needs manual staff spacing, though.

The bar repeat region can be moved in Engrave mode.

Depending on what exactly you want to achieve, there might be another way. You could use Rehearsal Marks as your “large bar numbers” and regular bar numbers for the rest.

In Layout options>Bar numbers you can choose on what staves the regular bar numbers should be shown, as well as their frequency and whether they should be shown in bars that also have a rehearsal mark. The setting to show Rehearsal marks (the bigger numbers) below the bottom staff is also in this section of Layout options, for some reason. In Library>Paragraph styles>Bar numbers (score) you can change the appearance of the small bar numbers.

In Engraving options>Rehearsal marks you set their sequence type to Bar numbers as well as other tweaks you want to make.

There is a drawback though: if you want the large bar numbers (rehearsal marks) to be shown on every bar, they will also show up on every bar in the part layouts which is not very desirable.

It just depends on what exactly you want. Something like this is simple to accomplish, if that’s what you are going for:

Just set the placement in Layout Options:

Right below that, make sure you are using the Bar numbers (score) Paragraph Style and set an enclosure if you want.

You are limited to one Paragraph Style here though, so I don’t think you can have them be larger at the top, and then smaller in the middle of the score without some workaround.
