New genre for me
There’s no polyphony counter on that thing unfortunately .
Someone is getting some serious ASIO dropouts in that 2nd vid xD.
I think it’s driven by making pretty lights on that Synesthesia soft synth.
Piano is considered a percussion Instrument so I guess if you got a 2 x 4 the length of the keyboard and pounded out a rythmn (cacophony) some might consider that music even if not musical.
It is kind of like the audio version of of modern art where the artist hurls wads of paint against a canvas and or rolls around on it.
The keys to understanding and appreciating a Jackson Pollack, the first of the flick drip and fling paint at canvas modern artists, are to see it in person not reproduction and see it many times. On one visit pick a color, say blue, and follow the lines and concentrations around the piece. On another trip pick a different color. Begin to see how the layers were built up and how they interact.
Many people will never like modern art just as most people don’t like jazz. But this Black Midi stuff is hard to approach musically. I think it’s a visual art or a synesthesia of the visual and aural. Not sure it’s worth getting to know.
I can appreciate composers wanting to write music that humans can’t perform.
Sadly, that can lead to music that humans can’t listen to.
David St. Hubbins: It’s such a fine line between stupid, and uh…
Nigel Tufnel: Clever.
David St. Hubbins: Yeah, and clever.
There is my black midi file for the day.
“There’s too many notes…”
I can’t watch that video to the end. My head hurts.
