Hi friends,
Since I was a Finale user for the last 25 years and just a beginner in Dorico, I am facing with an issue in this sophisticated software. I need to keep some measures blank without any rest signs in it. but there need some multi measure rests also in the project. When I tried to change the colour of the rest it is possible only when the multi measure rests are disabled. When multi measure rests are enabled even for a single measure rest It puts a multi measure rest with a digit 1 above it, which can’t change colour or hide. Is any one know how can I achieve this. If there is an option to show multi measure rest for more than one measure rest only leaving single measure rests as it is, that will also do. Many thanks in advance. Pleas see the highlighted parts in the attachment.

I fear the solution is avoiding multi-rests…
The alternative is having blank staves…
But let’s wait for better advice…
Hi @Krish, you could handle this in two ways (may be there are more):
A.
use, for those bars, a note with full bar duration, with hidden notehead and stem and suppressed playback. This will let you continue to use multi-rests:
or
B.
another idea would be to don’t show bar rests in empty bars, and insert Split points in the middle of the desired bars (you can move them in Write mode with the shortcuts), so that the multi-bar rest is broken for that bars and no rest is visible:
Many many thanks I will try
I prefer this option but I couldn’t find this option where is it ? I am on Dorico 5
Finaly I found it but the rest symbol is there I can’t change the colour also.
Ah, bummer.

What do you mean ?
I mean, too bad.

What does the absence of the rest signify to the player?
Have to note some directions to the player. Some what like DS and DC. For example in a song there are many sections such as intro, Pallavi, bgm1, anupallavi, bgm2, charanam etc. I don’t know if you are familiar with these Indian musical terms, In the song some parts will be repeating. Instead of writing the music we write only the name of the part. For that we need some space. If we can have a blank space to do that it will be great. Finale have this option. It have option to hide even a small section of the staff.
Unfortunately yes l hope these options will come in the future
Ah. It might be possible to achieve that extra space by a different method; or display the text in such a way that the rest doesn’t appear behind it.
Yes I am trying to find it out, Didn’t find any clue in the user manual. Waiting for a reply from some friend.
That’s a good idea actually I am unaware of adding a background colour. I will find out Thank you very much
To the right in the image when you create text with shift-x
or you can create a new Paragraph style with background and use that with shift-x text
Jesper
Edit: We could have saved a lot of time if we knew about why you wanted the blank measures.
You could try Edit → “Delete rest”. Or is it"remove". Don’t have the English translation right now.
