Version 5.1.51.2153 (Aug 6 2024)
Dorico 5 AudioEngine Version 5.6.41.124
iMac running Ventura 13.6.6
Greetings All -
Summer is over and it’s time to get back to work!
Here is a great mystery …
I’ve been using JBL Bluetooth headphones when composing and they’ve worked perfectly.
I can actually see when the “Boot Window initialization sequence” is executing, whether or not the headphones are turned on.
(Built In Audio for on board speakers, versus JBL…when the Bluetooth is on and paired).
I purchased a pair of Anker Soundcore headphones this week (Life Q20).
They pair perfectly with the iMac.
But Dorico won’t launch them.
(I have all other Bluetooth devices in the vicinity turned off, etc., etc.)
Is it possible there is a “driver issue”? In other words a driver native to Dorico that does not recognize the Soundcores?
Or am I missing something?
Hope everyone had a fine summer, and my thanks in advance.
Bluetooth I’ve found is very finicky with Dorico’s audio system. This also happens to me when I switch audio interfaces or change to speakers instead of headphones.
The most foolproof way that works for me is that I set my desired audio tool (audio interface) as my default audio input/output. Then, I make sure it is turned on, connected, and active (test with an mp3 or youtube video) BEFORE even opening Dorico. If you do not do this, sometimes Dorico will never recognize it until you restart the whole software.
If all has gone correctly, you can go Edit → Device Setup → and under ASIO DRIVERS select your headphones specifically. After that just let it think for a minute.
It’s a tad frustrating but once it works, you shouldn’t have problems with it again.
You also have to keep in mind, that BT headphones often have a limited set of sample rates. Just recently I had a customer with an Accentum headphone which only supports 16 and 44.1kHz. Then, when Dorico is e.g. set to 48kHz with Built-in audio, it won’t show the Accentum in the list due to sample rate mismatch. I think we have to come up with a better solution here…
That is a most excellent technical tip.
One I never would have considered.
The Steinberg engineers and coders are quite amazing.
I have every confidence that -in time- such particulars will be solved.
