Box notation work around? Aleatoric Music

Hi everyone! Is there a way to create similar functionality as Sibelius with regard to box notation? I’m thinking of switching to Dorico from Sibelius but I use a lot of box notation in my scores.

Besides that I couldn’t ask for anything more from a notation software at this point, pretty amazing software with many tools. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum, Trevor. There’s no native support for frame notation in Dorico just yet, though it’s definitely something we are planning for future versions. However, in the meantime, you could check this out:

End of 2024. No such luck yet. I gave up using workaround with line drawing. too cumbersome and not translating to individual parts that way. Please hurry up!

This is my largest hangup with the software. I so hope this is coming very soon! I’ve been anxiously waiting for box notation since purchasing Dorico 3 in 2021. I’ve largely enjoyed Dorico, but this has prevented me from switching my work exclusively to Dorico (I’ve engraved several scores in Sibelius) because the workarounds are so cumbersome. Even if this were to come out without playback integration, I think so many of us would not mind in the slightest and would benefit greatly!

Welcome to the forum, @Chelsea_Loew. Support for frame notation will be coming in a future version of Dorico, but not in the very next major release. We can’t address every significant functional area in a single development cycle. But we know that this is something lots of users are waiting for, and you can rest assured that we will take care of it as soon as we are able.
