One of the instruments I write for is the mbira and a common way of notating it is using a box type notation:
Is there any way that I could create a grid type instrument where the numbers would be in between the grid? Ideally I want it to have standard notation above and then this grid tablature below. I’m really needing to avoid importing these as graphic frames and/or doing this in something like illustrator if possible because I need to work quick.
The closest you can get within Dorico I think is to create a custom three-string fretted instrument showing tablature. But the numbers would be on the lines rahter than in boxes. Other than that Dorico is really not set up for this I’m afraid. Maybe you could work the other way around, make this ‘table’ natively in a DTP app and import the standard music notation as graphics?
Out of curiosity, what would your example look like in standard notation? What do the RT/L/B represent?
