Trying to follow the directions in the manual: open lower zone and properties selected, I’m to find a Bracketed Noteheads group, but see nothing like that. Is there an extended set, and, if so, how to I access it.
I’m also wanting to create a slur that covers notes appearing in both staves. Selecting all notes and selecting a slur creates two slurs, one for each stave.
Make sure you only have notes selected. By default, the Properties panel only shows properties that are common to all the selected items.
Or you could change this setting, in Preferences > Note Input and Editing > Note Input:
Some people love that setting; personally, I find the default behavior (Show only common properties) cleaner.
Thanks to both you, Janus, and you, Asherber, for your replies. Originally, I selected the note in question, opened the lower panel, selected Properties, but did not and still do not see anything related to bracketed notes. Obviously, I’m still missing something.
For the slurs, now all I need to do is raise the shape of the slur to above the upper staff. I imagine I can find how to do that in the manual.
It’s probably off the right hand side of your screen, and you need to scroll the panel. Notes and Rests, Beaming, Ties, Harmonics, then Bracketed Noteheads.
If you have the slur selected, you can press F to flip it. If you open the bottom Properties panel, you’ll see a Direction property you can change if you want to give the slur an S shape. And if you switch to Engrave mode, you’ll see that the slur has 5 handles (5 for each segment for an S slur) that you can use to fine tune the shape.
