Bracketing in DORICO. Grrrr

Didn’t what work?

Removing the player from the group, as @TonH indicated above:

Well, annoyingly, it removed all the players from the group and left the empty group indicator there. I want to ungroup the players so the group 1 indicator goes away and the Reed I players stay there.

But, look, fellas, I really really appreciate your help. But I’ve just created a new template from the Big Band template and I’m moving on. I can dive in later when I’m not on a deadline. Thanks so very much for your help!

You canhide all empty staves in Layout Options → Vertical Spacing → Staff visibility

Thank you, but that still doesn’t solve the bracketing problem. Unless I’m completely conceptualizing this wrong.

To be clear, you only had one player in the group; the player holds multiple instruments. After you remove the one player from the group, you can select the group item in the Players list and click the trash can icon to delete it.

(Actually, you can also just delete the group with the player still in it; Dorico will ask you if you want to keep the player or delete it.)

This makes me wonder if your piece is actual intended for a Pit Orchestra.

Which is a group of players who sit in the Orchestra Pit playing the music of a musical.

In which it’s common for Reed players to switch between 3 or 4 or 5 different instruments.

Always best to learn new things while not on a deadline

Good luck

I believe this is the case.
