Brahms piano concerto 2 - rhythm question

4/4 time.

So the middle voice treble clef is clear, running 8th triplets beamed in 2, at least until the last measure of this passage. The pedal Fs appear to be q[3:4] which fits the measure, but when typeset, the 2 tied 8ths don’t line up with the treble clef.

Can anyone tell me what the ratios are for those pedal Fs?

Like this for example:

And sort of the same for the high voice:

Edit: actually for the bottom staff, 3:4q works, of course, no need of nested tuplets

This appears to be what is happening. Whether it is the same as what Charles is suggesting I am not sure.

(Not sure why Forced Duration will not allow me to make the second, lower F octave in the right hand a quarter note. @dspreadbury )

As I read it, the bass and the descant form quarter triplets togehter, that makes it all add up. This must be the solution, right? So the ratio is 3 quarters against 2 quarters.

Ah yes… I see now. triplets with hidden rests. That makes much more sense on paper.

Thanks!

Before the cleanup but basically perfect, thanks @Derrek

thanks @charles_piano but it’s just a bunch of triples.

Could the alignment of the pedal Fs be affected by collision avoidance? What happens if you flip them? (Just a newbie asking for clarity!) I would test it but just moved into a new place and I’m not up and running yet!

No, my pic above before cleanup is the typeset solution – classic hemiola. After cleanup, aside from having to fix some slurs and stem directions, Dorico rendered it beautifully.
