Hello Dorico, et al. I’m new to Dorico after 30+ years of Finale. The last several years have been spent working with British-style Brass Bands. Started a project from the Brass Band template in Dorico 6. I wanted to check the chord down the full instrumentation of the band, and went into the Concert Pitch tab. I was surprised when the Baritones/Trombones/Euphoniums/Eb & Bb Basses stayed in treble clef and used up to 7 ledger lines. At a glance, this is not helpful at all. The better option would be to show the proper note in bass clef, and with the Transposed Pitch tab selected, to then show not only the key transposition but also the octave transposition. Is there a way to get the Concert Pitch tab to display the bass clef without the ledger lines?
When I start a new score from the brass band template in D6, the baritones/trombones/euphoniums/basses all behave as expected and display in bass clef in concert pitch.
If you go into Setup mode, expand the player card for one of these instruments, click the three-dot menu and choose Edit Instrument Definition, what does it say under Staves and Clefs?
I attempted to modify the Instrument Definition for both the Baritone and Trombone 1 in my project. It doesn’t appear to be taking effect. Here is the project file. It’s a reduced Brass Band. Would also like to know if there is a way to edit the template so that these changes are not necessary every time I start a new project.
It looks like you have added explicit treble clefs to all of your players. You can tell because if you click on a clef in Write mode, only that clef gets highlighted in orange. You can get rid of all of these at once by opening the jump bar with J and executing the command Delete Initial Clefs. Now your baritone and trombone players display correctly.
Your euphonium and bass instruments are not set up to use bass clef in concert scores.
If you edit the instrument definition and change the second value to bass clef, they will display correctly.
It looks to me like these were all changes you made to the score, since when I start a new piece from the Brass Band template, everything is wired up correctly.
