Occasionally, Dorico will cause a black screen (similar to that caused by tabbing in and out of fullscreen applications) during normal use. It happens especially often when the mouse is moved over the mode toolbar. This has been occurring since some time in Dorico 5’s life cycle and persists in Dorico 6. It has also persisted across multiple driver versions.
I can’t provide the last working version for either Dorico or a graphics driver because it has been so long since I worked with Dorico on this computer. I have been avoiding it due to this issue and instead working on my Macbook, which doesn’t have the issue. As far as I can tell, this only occurs with Dorico, so I am reasonably certain that it’s a Dorico issue. I can vaguely recall it occurring in other applications, but can’t reproduce the issue anywhere else, at this time.
I have a link to a video of it occurring, but the forums will not let me attach it. Regular screen recording does not capture the issue, which again seems to indicate that it is related to what’s happening when you tab in or out of a fullscreen app.

Perhaps you could upload your video to YouTube as an unlisted video, and then post a link here?

I guess I’m not allowed to post links either. You can copy this and paste it after the .com of YouTube.
Thanks for sharing the video link. That’s really strange, and off the top of my head I don’t have any idea what might be going on there. I’ll ask a colleague if he has any ideas, and come back to you.

We’ve been doing a bit of research into similar reports of black screen when using the RTX 3070 card, and one common factor appears to be the temperature of the card. If the card is getting up over 100 degrees Celsius, that will cause the output to drop out. If you have a way of monitoring the temperature of the card, that would be a good thing to keep an eye on.
From other reports of this kind of problem we’ve found on the web, it also seems that some users have had success with using the generic Windows driver rather than the fancy Nvidia one, so that might also be worth trying, if you can do so easily.
Thanks for your response!
I’m pretty confident after a few moments of testing that it isn’t related to temperature, for me. I seem to be hitting a max temperature of about 51 C while using Dorico. If I zoom all the way out and pan around on a large score, I only see the GPU usage get up to about 16%, so it makes sense that the temperatures would not be very far above my idle temps.
Unfortunately, switching to the generic windows driver isn’t really an option for me, given the other work I do with this machine.
I have noticed recently that working in Dorico for a while makes me second monitor flash black occasionally, as well.
Please do let me know if you have any other ideas, I appreciate the help troubleshooting this.
I am also getting this issue using an RTX4070Ti. The card is operating at only about 43.9’C. As with OP, my second monitor is also flashing. This has been happening since I initially got the card and a new monitor at the same time. I thought it might be an issue with the monitor, so I reduced the refresh rate from 144Hz to 120Hz. No difference. Then I got a second one of the same monitor. Still happens, although now it takes out both monitors, but not necessarily at the same time.
