Here’s an interesting one I’ve come across recently! 
Situation: I have a row of 16th notes. I wish to change two (or more) of them consecutively into 8th notes. If I type “5 → 5” too quickly, the note that the " → " selects becomes a dotted 16th note.
Suggested solution: Arrow keys interrupt the “double tap dotted notes” process in the same way that entering a pitch does.
I hasten to add that this happens regardless of note values.
I hope that if the team decides to incorporate this there will be an option to turn it off. I often find the original behavior useful.
I think you might be misunderstanding the OP. The request is that if you tap 5, then arrow, then 5 in quick succession, the result should not be that the second note becomes dotted.
This is different from saying that once dotted mode has been engaged with a double tap, the arrow key should disengage it.
This issue has been reported before, and seems to be related to another issue which was fixed.
Yes, this is exactly the issue. I’d actually still like double tap to work as intended (rather than be able to turn it off) but have it interrupted by the left or right arrow key.

@rkrentzman has a different interpretation of the OP than I do. From both of the Adam’s posts, I take it that he’s trying to change the duration of a sequence of notes, but the second duration keypress is incorrectly activating the dotted function—even though there’s an arrow keypress in between.
I believe that Ron thinks that Adam is asking for the arrow key to disengage dotted mode after you have intentionally double tapped to engage it.

Well, I took his “this is exactly the issue” to mean that he agreed with my description of the issue, which differs from your interpretation. I was also following his description in the original post:
He describes typing “5 → 5” (where → is the right arrow) and having dotted mode engage when he didn’t want it. I think he wants the arrow key to “interrupt” the timer that determines whether a second duration press engages dotted mode (as described in the posts I linked to).
(Incidentally, @Adam_Kempshall, you can also select multiple notes and press 5 to change them all to eighth notes at once.)
Just to make it super duper clear: at the moment I would regard it as a bug that when I press "a number" followed by the "right arrow key" and then "the same number again" the second note that my right arrow key press has selected turns into a dotted whatever-it’s-value-previously-was.
Maybe some people find the current behaviour desirable, but it feels like a bug to me.
It certainly sounds like an undesirable behavior to me so I support your suggestion that it may be a bug, or maybe just a coding oversight.
