BUG - CC / Controller Lanes - NaN Error

Hi,

In Cubase 14, I’ve been getting weird glitches with CC data when using ramps, either subtle changes by 1-2 or if there are too many changes in a row. What will happen is the audio will start to audibly glitch. I thought it was just Kontakt instruments but this just happened on my Trillian Synth as well, so it seems to be the C14 midi CC.

However, this takes the cake as I’ve never seen this error, and I don’t think a NaN value should be showing when the midi plays perfectly fine in C13, but open in C14 and the audio glitches, and now a NaN error appears.

Cheers,
DMDComposer

Hi,

Could you please share a project with this only track?

Hi Martin,

Thank you for the prompt response. My apologies for not sharing the session previously, I actually was more afraid I couldn’t reproduce it, but luckily I did.

This session is just the Trillian instrument, tempo/meter I left in just in case that did have something to do with it.

After you open it, just look at the midi and you’ll see a similar picture to what I shared below. The previous post I was working on my macOS, and this time it’s on my Windows computer, both are Cubase 14 to be clear. However, on Windows I get a bit more letters than just the NaN error saying this time “nan(ind)”. Additionally, as you press play nothing changes in the cc7 but the cc1/cc11 you’ll see move.

Also to be clear, the audio glitches I’ve been getting haven’t just been on cc7 but any cc, but the NaN error has only shown up or “caught on camera” on the cc7.

Hope this helps, cheers!

Hi,

I can reproduce it in the project, you shared.

But I can’t reproduce it with an empty project. I even tried to copy the MIDI CC7 from your project to a new one and I couldn’t reproduce it either.

Did you create the project in C14 or an older Cubase version? How did you create the MIDI CC lane? Did you record it or draw?

Hi Martin,

Here’s the backstory to clear things up. The template originally came from Cubase 13 (C13), which I opened in Cubase 14 (C14). I then wrote a cue using this C13 template within C14, and when starting a new cue, I used the “backup” feature to create a new cue based on the original template. The session you’re looking at is a result of that process.

Does that make sense? So technically it does stem from Cubase 13, but I used the back up feature in C14, and the session your looking at is that back up C14 session.

The answer to your second question is, I recorded it. Using the ramp record feature or ramp enabled, whatever that feature is called.

Cheers!

Hi,

Reported to Steinberg. Thank you.

I am experiencing the same issue. I drew CC1 with the modulation wheel, and when playing back, values of 0 appear randomly.
The issue still persists even when drawing over it with the Pencil Tool. But this problem doesn’t occur when drawing over with the Line Tool.
It seems that strange grid or snap signals are being input only during MIDI recording with MIDI Controller.

This bug has not been fixed in the latest update. When the CC Controller is set to Ramp mode and the modulation wheel is recorded, certain parts are played back at 0, which is different from what was drawn. This issue does not occur in Step mode.
