BUG ... Conflict between Staccato, Tie chain and Playing Technique

I am currently setting up a Portato expression for Sample Modeling strings. It requires a slur over notes with a staccato on each.

I am using a base technique so it’s possible to set note length to 105% in order to cancel the playback of the staccato.

Everything works perfectly until in need to write a note with a tie chain… that note will break the playing technique and won’t be played, see the highlighted note below :

The same thing with Louré (Slur over Tenuto) works perfectly, Tie chain or not :

In your portato example, you have the dot over the quaver (the second note in the tie). In your loure example, you have the dash under the dotted minim (the first note in the tie). Maybe this has something to do with it.

I can confirm the behavior that you have described. In your second screenshot, if you remove the staccato from the highlighted note, the played duration of the note increases. So even though the expression map does not know that the highlighted note is staccato, the presence of this articulation affects the played duration of the note. However, this does not explain why the base switch chosen in the expression map is dependent on whether the highlighted note with the staccato is tied or not. Very strange.

@Sitka: The position of the staccato or tenuto in the tie chain has no effect on the described behavior.

Thank you John and Sitka.

I just got back to the studio and was able to run this little test that clearly shows how a staccato on a Tie chain will break any Base Switch :

It has currently nothing to do with Portato and the slur that would go on top… It seems to be a simple and annoying Bug.

I just noted as well how the tied note which should be shorter in playback length is actually longer… when all I did was shortening it ???
