Hi @JoPiano , sorry for the late response. I haven’t noticed this so far. Thanks for pinging me. I have a Yamaha MONTAGE M here running in macOS Sequoia 15.5 with MIDI2.0 in hi resolution and it’s running fine in Cubase 15.0.5. We don’t have a SL Mk2 available for checking the issue. Are you running the latest firmware on your SL 88 GT Mk2? I noticed that Studiologic is mentioning some MIDI2.0 related stuff in their firmware’s version history. Regarding the confirmation by @trane26 with the Roland A-88 Mk2, we need to look into the details, as there’s another user (Thread about A88 mkII) being able to use the device on macOS 15.6.1 in MIDI2.0 mode (despite the solved problem he had with using MIDI-CI). I’ll write a separate post with some questions to learn more about the A-88 Mk2 symptoms that trane26 reports. Please make sure to select the correct MIDI Input port, I think it should be named “SL MIDI 2.0“. If your problem still persists, please provide a screenshot of your MIDI Port Setup (Main Menu/Studio/Studio Setup…/MIDI Port Setup).
Hi @trane26 . Thank you for your report. I don’t have an A-88 Mk2 available for checking the issue, but it seems as there’s another user being able to use it in Cubase 14 & 15 (despite the issue he had with MIDI-CI): see A88 mkII Forum Thread. Could you please provide more information on your issue:
What exactly doesn’t work? You don’t get any MIDI-Events from your A-88 Mk2?
What’s your MIDI-Setup? Please provide a screenshot from your MIDI Port Setup (Main Menu/Studio/Studio Setup…/MIDI Port Setup)
Which Firmware of A-88 Mk2 are you using? Did you try the latest?
I am running the latest versions of all, including the firmware of the SL Mk2.
Of course I use the right input port. A screenshot is attached.
It has got even worse since I wrote the last time. Now there is no Midi input not even if the masterkeyboard is set to Midi 1. The point is: Everything is fine with cubase 14 and all of my other Apps, Samplers, VIs … Only Cubase 15 Trial has these problems and I won’t buy it, if these persist.
Hi @JoPiano . Sorry for your inconvenience. Thank you for the additional information. Would you mind sending me a screenshot of your (macOS) Audio-MIDI-Setup as well? This could help me to understand the details of your setup. Please understand, that it’s not easy to analyze the problem without having the device at hand. If you’re willing to help me understanding the problem, you may try to disable the visibility (“Sichtbarkeit”) of all MIDI-Ports in MIDI Port Setup except “SL MIDI 2.0” In & Out, then restart Cubase, to see if you’re able to receive MIDI then.
Do you have other products supporting MIDI2.0 that do work with your SL Mk2? Did you check Logic? I don’t know if GarageBand supports MIDI 2.0, if so: did you check it?
I also have the SL88 GT Mk2 and have the same issue @JoPiano has described. I’m on Mac OS latest update, SL latest firmware, and midi 2.0 does not work in C15 but does work as expected in C14. Hope this helps!
@JoPiano, the contact to Studiologic has been established. I’m in contact with several persons over there. So far that has been very supportive. I shared detailed information about the issue and provided access to Cubase 15. They are about to send an SL Mk2 to Steinberg. We haven’t been able to analyse the problem yet, but that is likely to happen soon.
Apart from that I initiated a test to make sure that there’s no new problem with MIDI2.0 in macOS 26 Tahoe. Today we verified, that Yamaha MONTAGE M does work in MIDI2.0 hi-resolution mode in macOS 26 Tahoe in Cubase 15. I works like expected. I expect that this has already been verified earlier but I wanted to check it myself to be absolutely confident about this.
To my knowledge it does work in MIDI2.0 mode in Cubase (incl. 15). But you need to turn off MIDI-CI support in Cubase’s preferences, as written in this tread: Roland A88 mkII MIDI 2.0 bug
But I must admit, that I personally don’t have an A88 Mk2 available.
My SL73 Mk2 (latest FW) does not work in MIDI 2.0 mode with Cubase 15. When I switch the SL73 to MIDI 2.0 Low Res, it does work. And MIDI 1.0 mode works also. Turning MIDI-CI support on or off did not influence the outcome.
The A88 mkII is actually working as expected in Cubase 15 Pro. Don’t know what I did wrong, but I can use it, also with Midi-CI support on. The A88 mkII is in Midi 2.0 mode but also works when I start it in Midi 1 mode. Using the latest firmware.
