Bug report: Dorico raising notes by one step by itself in different key signatures

Dear Dorico team, I noticed a strange behavior when adding notes using the computer keyboard and the up/down arrow. When adding notes in a certain key signature, sometimes the note comes half step above of the one it is supposed to be. For instance, when working in D major, when I add an A, it comes as A#. All the times it happened I checked that no alteration button was enabled (natural, sharp or flat), so the note was supposed to be the default of the key signature. Only after typing the note is that the alteration button shows up.

It happens mostly when the key signature has sharps, but I noticed it happening with key signatures with flats as well.

Things to consider:

I use the note input options: specify pitch after duration and specify accidental, rhythm dot and articulations after inputting note.

I really double checked that no alteration button was enabled.

When the note comes a half step above and I undo the entry and reenter the same note, it comes wrong again. When I move the cursor back and reenter the same note, it fixes the bug.

The attached Dorico file is my attempt to find some pattern in the bug behavior, but I could not figure it out. I just added new key signatures using the SHIFT+K short cut and typed the desired key signature - major and minor (I noticed that most of the key signature signposts where missing), and added the same note using the same method: double click to enable the note input, moved the cursor to reach the note A and typed the key 6 to add a quarter note.

When you say you move “the cursor” I assume you are using mouse input? If so I wonder if you’ve tried this since upgrading to 5.1.70 - there definitely was a way this could have happened in 5.1.60, but it should be fixed now.

Hi, Richard! When I say move the cursor, I mean to use the up/down arrows to reach the note A. I updated to 5.170 before generating the bug report file and I just tried again just in case. I have the same behavior yet. If it helps, I can record my screen showing my entire process.

Yes, if you could do that that would be useful.

Thanks for the video. Richard and I have been able to reproduce this problem now, and we’ll fix it in due course. Sorry for the inconvenience caused in the meantime.
