[Bug report] SL11.0.1Unmix Noisy Speech repeatedly causing crash in Nuendo 13.0.41

Hi all!
I’ve been experiencing frequent crashes in Nuendo when using the Unmix Noisy Speech module. As soon as I tell it to process, Nuendo has that “A Serious problem has occurred in the following file” error.

The file is Qt6WidgetsSL.dll

I have attached the crash dump.

Could you take a look, Robin? Thanks in advance!
Does anyone have any tips on how to make it work again?

Nuendo 13.0.41 64bit2024.7.14 17.20.13.446.dmp (3.2 MB)

Thanks for sharing the crash dump, I’ll have a look. You don’t have this issue with the standalone app ?

Thank you so much!

To be honest I never use the standalone app, although I would love to (ARA is very buggy for me, I always have to work one event at a time and make the extension permanent), but I just haven’t figured out how that would work out for me editing dialogue, without the timeline.

So I have no idea how it is with the standalone, and to be really honest I’m on a tight schedule right now, and cannot test it.

But yesterday I had a windows Update gone wrong (they got me by surprise) and have reinstalled windows, and this seemed to have gotten worse, more frequent. Today I’ll reinstall Nuendo and SL and I’ll tell you if it changes anything!

As soon as I have the chance I’ll test the standalone too.
(By the way, do you have any idea on how I could incorporate standalone on my dialogue editing workflow? I’ve thought about checking the fades on all events and then bouncing it all to a single file the length of the film, taking it to SL, cleaning it up, and then back to Nuendo, but I’m afraid of the lack of context/video that this method would impose.)

Thanks again Robin!

Yeah, reinstalling did nothing.

Hey Robin!
I figure you must have not had time to look at this yet, But I should update you that I have uninstalled Win11 latest update, 23H2 (I’m on Version 10.0.22621 Build 22621) the problem has gone away completely.

So that is great!

Thanks again!

Hi @henrique_staino yes unfortunately I did not have time to check this yet.
Thanks for the hint about the windows update !

No problem!
As soon as I have a break here I’ll install the Update again to see if it is really this update package or if it was something specific to my installation.
If I’m not mistaken, my laptop has installed this update and I had no problems with Unmix there. (It is an AMD processor though, instead of the Intel in my desktop.)

Hi @Robin_Lobel , I’m back to crashing when using the Unmix Noisy Speech module.

Every other time I use it, it crashes as soon as I press my shortcut, and I have to close Nuendo, lose work, etc.

Can you please take a look at this crash dump and help me solve this? I’m having trouble working with so many crashes (Spectralayers is now the very core of my dialog editing workflow).

@henrique_staino I’ll have a look, can you give SpectraLayers 11.0.50.398 a try and let me know if that helps ?

Hey @Robin_Lobel !

I believe I have applied unmix Noisy Speech enough times to say confidently that the problem is gone in the 11.0.50.398 build!

Seems as stable as ever, and the navigation controls customization is simply superb.

Thanks a lot again!
All the best,

@henrique_staino oh man! I don’t know what I’d do if I couldn’t get unmix noisy speech to function!

I’m happy latest build is working for you

hey todd thank you for the kind words hehehaha!

Yeah, I’m hooked man, I don’t even remember what it is to edit without Unmix Noisy Speech. God forbid I ever have to go back to stitching room tone together.

This latest build is rock solid. It seems faster too, somehow!
