BUG: "Save As Default" Insert Effect Settings Don't Recall Properly

Hi there,

I’ve found a bug where “Save As Default” doesn’t recall the correct plugin settings when adding multiple inserts on multiple audio channels.

The settings are also entirely different on successive instances of the same plugin.

My setup: I’m using Cubase 15.0.21 on Windows 11 24H2 x64.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE (I’m using SSL DeEss plugin):

  1. Create 5 audio tracks.
  2. Activate Q-Link.
  3. Add an Insert effect (I’m using SSL DeEss) ONLY to track 1.
  4. Change any setting in the plugin and use the “Save As Default” option to save it as default settings. Remember the settings you saved.
  5. Remove the plugin from the Insert.
  6. Now select all 5 audio tracks. Add Insert effect (again, I’m adding SSL DeEss here).
  7. Open each instance of SSL DeEss and see that the settings are totally different.

This issue also occurs with any other plugin I’ve tried.

WORKAROUND:

Only open one instance of a plugin at a time then copy to adjacent tracks after the fact. This keeps the “Save As Default” setting as it is.

I might know what’s going on here. address that is not cubase’s fault.

there are plugin albums that when linked in multiple channels،the parameter link does not work well. I think that is the fault of the plugin developer himself. It happens to me with albums…The best thing is to write directly to them. Steinberg،if this is the case،I can’t do anything.

to discharge that specific plug،try another one.

I have tested it with some Cubase plugins, no issue there, and I have not encountered this with any other plugin so far (and I used default presets and Qlink insert a lot), but I just found one plugin that actually does exhibit this behaviour (Valhalla FreqEcho, which has no issues with parameter linking else). So it seems to be plugin specific, but I cannot really explain why, because all Cubase does is load the default preset and calls the setState()-method of the plugin.

But it seems to be more plugin-specific and not a Cubase bug. test in C14.

Ah, thanks! I’ve tried it with FabFilter Pro-Q 4 and this seems to work fine and saves the default preset correctly, also recalling it correctly.

I think you’re right that it’s a plugin manufacturer issue. Thanks again.
